Adjacent to the main entrance of the Broadway Cinematheque, the Cinematheque Café/Bar serves as an extension of the programs of the film centre and includes a book/music store for devoted cinephiles. The original site is conceived as 4 elongated, rectilinear compartments reminiscent of the shape and density of traditional tenement shophouses.
Each compartment is defined by 2 of 5 vertical planes. Each plane, clad in a material derived from the Cinematheque, then undergoes a series of transformations articulating its individuality, uniqueness and program, as well as the confrontations & associations between the planes. The plane-space-plan relationships are experienced sequentially, with the spatial drama further emphasized by the mirrored end walls, as one walks along the shopfront.
