As an extension of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, our ambition for MoMA Design Store, Hong Kong is to create a unique retail experience which embodies their “good design” ideology. In keeping along with the overall K11Musea, the interactive store environment of MoMA Design Store provides a haven to customers of all ages, with flexibility catered to sustain the fast-paced Hong Kong retail landscape. As this is the first MoMA Design Store in greater China, we have incorporated local elements in homage to our cultural heritage as part of the aesthetics. To name a few: the use of bamboo and galvanized zinc, the mobile chess-piece-like fixtures inspired by mah-jong tables, and fixtures inspired by the dim sum trolleys. We hope such elements will evoke a sense of familiarity for Hongkongers while inspiring an international audience.
