Tokyo, 2000, Competition
The proposal suggests an organizing structure for city bytes. It is an urban strategy applied to the void (defunctioned waterway) of the given site in the Tokyo Bay area. The lost function of the waterway as a centre of exchange will be re-made again in a multi-strata manner. On the area of nothingness it extends horizontally in the initial phase as a series of activity platforms for "breeding” of city bytes. When the bytes accumulate, it will expand vertically according to different needs. Its edges with the bankside will form a symbiotic surface. New city bytes will spread towards the existing urban fabric and generate new conditions with the neighbourhood. Due to the dynamic and unstable nature of the city bytes, the proposed structure takes no specific form, or even formless in “architectural terms”.
